Keep Growing

“Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who
contradict his word are completely in the dark.”
– Isaiah 8:20 (NLT)

Successful coaches are always learning! You can go to any clinic in the country and you will find the best coaches sitting on the front row. To me that speaks volumes about why those coaches are successful. Successful coaches do not stand still, they’re always looking for a “nugget” that can make them a better coach or team. There are however, coaches who are convinced they know all they need to know. They have their system and it has worked for years, so why look for ways to change. I have always like the saying that past performance does not guarantee future success. My translation of that is that if you are standing still, it won’t take long for someone to pass you.

I love spending time in God’s Word—The Bible. Like that coach at a clinic, each time I open it up, I get a “nugget.” I believe the more “nuggets” I can get and apply to my life, the better chance of success I will have in living out my life according to God’s perfect plan. I want to stay hungry and be a lifelong learner when it comes to God’s Word. I don’t want to stand still or be in the dark. I want to be like those athletes who beg their coaches for more work. Being a student of the Bible does not guarantee success, but I do believe there will be fewer bumps along the way.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your instruction book—the Bible. Grow me in knowledge and wisdom as I study and apply your Word to my life today. Amen.
