Busyness

“Be still and know that I am God.”
– Psalm 46:10

As coaches, we live in a “grip it and rip it” world. We know all to well about being overloaded, overburdened, and overboard with busyness. Instead of hitting the “Do It” button again and again, wouldn’t it be nice to push the “Pause” button just once? Maybe you have thought on occasion, if you could only clone yourself, you could get so much more accomplished. “Busy” can beat us like a drum. Those we care about the most can stop asking for our time if they think we’re too busy for them. If we have to squeeze our spouse and children into our appointment book, we might need to slow down.  It might be time to push that “Pause” button. Being busy can rob us of meaningful relationships as well as our health. I have been reminded more than once, that busyness is not a spiritual gift.

“Be still and know that I am God.” It’s so hard to slow down, take it easy, or wait. If we’re being honest with ourselves, what we’re really saying is that I don’t have time for others in my life. Worse yet, we’re telling God that we don’t have time for Him. How many of us are stretching ourselves more while falling apart at the same time? Busy is the enemy of peace. Being busy can steal irreplaceable time and rob us of blessings. God warns us to slow down. Are we listening? Could it be time for you to hit the “Pause” button? Do you need to take a step back and do what’s really important? When we respond to God’s warning, He can give us peace that surpasses all understanding. He can restore those meaningful relationships. He can give us back our health and our sanity. Accept the challenge. It can change your life.

Heavenly Father, give me the strength and courage to be still. In that time of stillness, may I come to know You and trust You more. Amen.
