Keep Growing

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable
for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in
righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16

Successful coaches are always learning! You can go to any clinic in the country and find the best coaches sitting on the front row taking notes. To me, that speaks volumes about why those coaches are successful. Great coaches do not stand still. They are always searching for that one thing that can make them a better coach or a  better team. There are also coaches who are convinced that they know all they need to know. They have their system, it has worked for years and they are not looking to make any changes. I have always taken to heart the saying used when investing money—past performance does not guarantee future success. My translation is that if you’re standing still, it won’t take long for someone to pass you.

We can find great joy spending time in God’s Word.  Like that wise old coach taking notes at the clinic, we can come away with something valuable each time we open the Bible. I believe the more time we spend in Scripture, the better our chances are of living out our lives according to God’s perfect plan. We should strive to stay hungry and be lifelong learners when it comes to understanding God’s Word.  We should never stand still thinking we have the basics and fail to keep growing our faith. We should want to be like those athletes who beg their coaches for more work. Being a faithful student of the Bible neither guarantees success, nor promises a trouble-free life. However, I do believe it helps smooth out a few of the bumps and keeps us out of a few ditches along the way. God has given us all that we have. Why would we not want to spend a lifetime learning all we can about Him?

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your instruction through Your Word. Grow me in knowledge and wisdom as I study and apply Your Word in my life today. In Jesus name, Amen.
