Trust What He’s Doing

September 30, 2024

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

Many of us are big planners. We want to know what the future holds so we can plan our lives accordingly. Too many of us want to know things which are impossible for us to know. As much as we like to think we have control over our lives and our future—we don’t. We often say and hear others say, “God has a plan”, without fully comprehending what that means.  No one plans for a car accident. No one plans for a debilitating illness. No one plans for an the unexpected loss of a love one. I have insurance, you may say. Even when we purchase insurance we are often guilty of thinking that these kinds of things happen to other people. I once heard someone say, “You don’t have to know what God is doing, you just have to trust what He is doing.” To follow through on that one takes incredible faith!

To have this kind of trust, it is imperative that we stay closely connected to our Heavenly Father. Utilizing a Bible reading plan and doing daily devotionals can help us stay grounded in His Word. Regular Bible study with fellow coaches, athletes or co-workers will keep us connected to the family of believers. Active involvement in a Bible-teaching church is essential. We all need encouragement and as followers of Jesus, we are called to pour into the lives of other believers. Taking our eyes off of ourselves usually gives us a much different perspective. Thinking about “we” instead of “me” is a much needed practice. The source of true peace can only be found in God. That peace leads us to trust in what God is doing even when we don’t understand it.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering love and grace in my life. Forgive me Lord for wanting to take control of my life and my future. Teach me to trust You in all things, even the things I fail to understand.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
