One Way to Play

February 11, 2013

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one

comes to the Father except through Me.”

– John 14:6 (Holman Christian Standard)

A common coaching phrase is, “It’s my way or the highway”! This is usually interpreted as, get with the program or move on, it’s your choice. There can only be one person in charge. Coaches want their athletes to believe in them. Coaches want their team to buy into the game plan, to trust that the right play has been called and to be totally committed to executing that play. Players must believe that Coach knows how to get the best results. Teams that get on board with the head coach usually have a much greater chance for success.

In John 14:6, Jesus makes it very clear that HE is the way to heaven. He is not one of many ways, He is the ONLY way! Memorizing the Ten Commandments will not get us into heaven. Sitting in a church pew every Sunday will not do the job either. Making the decision to be a good person also leaves us short of the mark. It is only though Jesus Christ that we can come to God the Father. This means that Jesus is the truth, not just someone teaching the truth. Truth can be found nowhere else. Jesus Christ is the source of life and when we receive Him in our heart, we can have eternal life. Jesus is THE way, the choice is ours to make.

Heavenly Father, thank You for providing a way to be on Your team. The choice is mine and I choose Jesus. AMEN.
