The line between being a champion or a chump is very thin. Isn’t it amazing that in one game, a coach can go from a genius to a complete idiot. The team that just won a big game is never going to lose again. The team that just fell apart is a bunch of bums who will never win again. The coaching roller coaster often takes us on a wild ride and we have to be well grounded to keep things in the proper perspective. Here is a truth for you, “It’s seldom as good as it seems, nor as bad”. Coaches will experience times of plenty as well as times of scarcity. Rarely in a season will we win them all or lose them all. Some years we have great talent and other years we have little. The struggle for coaches is finding contentment in the process.

What does the Bible say about finding contentment? The Apostle Paul reminds us that there is a secret to being content, and that secret is staying strong in Jesus. Contentment is the key in our witness for Jesus. How credible will our testimony be if we are only happy and content when things are going our way? Contentment with our situation in life reflects our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. If we continue our reading to Philippians 4:13, it says, “I am able to do all things through Him, who strengthens me”. That strength is available in the good times and the bad. The great news is that God continues to walk with us and stand beside us, regardless of what the world may think or say about us.

Lord help me be content with all You have given me and help me to do the best I can with it. Amen.
