“Always be joyful. Never stop praying.
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s
will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Life comes at us fast! As coaches we wear many hats and have more on our “To Do” lists than we have time to accomplish. We interact with administrators, teachers, student/athletes, parents, spouses and our own children on a daily basis. Though we have some voice over who makes the team, schedules and game day decisions, many aspects of our job are beyond our control. Injuries, suspensions, illness, and firings are not things we decide. Our faith is always stronger when things are going well. Where do we put Christ when the tough times come? Where do we find peace and comfort when the world turns on us?
As coaches, we want our players and fans to have faith in our program. We want them to stick with us not only during the good times, but also in the hard times that always come. God expects the same from us. How can we develop an attitude that will take us through the difficult times? God’s Word tells us to “rejoice always; pray constantly; and to give thanks in all things.” That’s advice we can always count on.
May the Thanksgiving holiday be a time that you and your family rejoice in the many blessings that you have been given. Take the time to pray together and to give thanks for all things—those you control as well as those you don’t.
Heavenly Father, may I rejoice in my circumstances with the knowledge that You are always with me. May I understand that You are only a prayer away regardless of my situation. Give me a heart of thanksgiving during this holiday season. Amen.
