What If Everyone Was Like You?
“The eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you, nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. – 1 Corinthians 12:21 (ESV) People were hungry for sports as we navigated through the COVID pandemic shutdown. This certainly had a part to play in the...
Giving Your All
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” – Deuteronomy 6:5 (ESV) As a coach, I have always been interested in how to motivate athletes. How do you get them to willingly give 100% on every play? How do...
Perseverance
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” – James 1:12 (ESV) I have always believed that difficult times reveal character. In the arena of...
What Does God Think of You?
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” – Colossians 3:12 (ESV) I had just accepted the job as head football coach for a school that had never fielded a team. It goes without saying...
First Love

So, You Want More Playing Time
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.” – Luke 16:10 (ESV) “Coach, how can I get more playing time?” Now for some coaches, that question is like throwing gasoline on a...
Making Time
“Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd and after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.” – Mark 6:45:46 (ESV) My perspective of time has changed...
Enduring Love
“For I said, ‘Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.’” – Psalm 89:2 (ESV) There are a few things that successful athletes simply must endure. Preseason training is one of them. It’s been over fifty years since...
Finding Fellowship
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God and he is eternal life.”...
Uncomfortable

Strength Through Weakness
“The Lord said to Gideon, “The people with you are too many go give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’” – Judges 7:2 (ESV) It was impossible to contain my excitement as the ten mighty warriors climbed on...

New Devotion by Charles Gee
All coaches understand the call to “Huddle Up.” Though not everyone coaches on the field, court, or diamond, most of us gather to share ideas, address challenges, or plan strategies. In the corporate world, it’s a staff meeting. In the military, a briefing. When parents want to clear the air, it’s a family conference. We’re all coaching in some way, and there will always be a time to “Huddle Up.”
The Christ- centered principles in these studies help coaches and competitors reconnect, refocus, and reboot to meet daily challenges.
Charles Gee is Chaplain for the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association and has served with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for over 15 years. Drawing from personal coaching experiences, he writes weekly devotions encouraging coaches to use their platform to impact lives for Jesus Christ (scfcacoaches.org). A retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Army Reserves, Charles lives in Mt. Pleasant, SC, with Kathy, his wife of 52 years. He has two sons, Jeff and Chris, two daughters- in-law, Kristin and Megan, and three amazing, competitive grandchildren.
