“For as he thinks within himself, so he is.”
– Proverbs 23:7
Every action, good or bad, begins as a simple thought. Most coaches I know are busy people! However, sometimes we can be so busy, that we fail to to think through our actions. Thinking is important! As coaches we stress the importance of fundamentals with our players. But, in this area, we often fail to practice what we preach. Thinking should be fundamental to all we do. Instead of taking control of our thoughts, all too often we let them control us, going wherever they want. That can get us into big trouble. The following words come from a Chinese proverb (author unknown).
Be careful of your thoughts,
for your thoughts become your words.
Be careful of your words,
for your words become your actions.
Be careful of your actions,
for your actions become your habits.
Be careful of your habits,
for your habits become your character.
Be careful of your character,
for your character becomes your destiny!
Heavenly Father, direct my thinking today. Teach me Your ways and draw me closer to You. Help me to trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit as I make daily decisions. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
